Content

This unit introduces students to the foundational principles and applied techniques of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) and machine learning (ML) within creative practice. Students will explore a range of genAI types—supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning, and generative models—and learn how these are transforming fields such as art, music, interactive media, and game design. The unit focuses on developing core programming skills relevant to creative industries, including working with Python and visual scripting tools such as Unreal Blueprints. Students will gain hands-on experience training, fine-tuning, and implementing genAI models, using image and video datasets, and integrating genAI into creative workflows. By bridging conceptual understanding with technical application, this unit empowers design practitioners to critically and effectively apply genAI in their creative work.
