Content
This unit explores the world of children’s picture books, including alphabet and haptic books aimed at early readers, classic fictional stories such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, and The Lorax, informational nonfiction texts, and contemporary hybrid picture books by authors such as Shaun Tan. It covers themes such as environmentalism, consumerism, history, censorship, identity and more. Future teachers, artists, writers, and those interested in children’s literature will acquire skills in analysis, knowledge of this unique form of children’s literature and the capacity to use picture books for the pleasure and education of young people.

Hurdle requirements
To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve an overall mark of at least 50% in assessment task 1: live oral assessment to evidence a minimum proficiency in the aligned discipline learning outcomes included in this unit.
