Content
This unit explores the theories, cultures and practices that define global media in an increasingly globalised, digitised and networked world. You will engage with key debates in global media studies, including globalisation and transnationalism, the rise of the platform society, soft power, and the digital cold war. The unit examines contemporary media and cultural practices, such as influencer cultures across different regions, transnational television formats and global digital activism. It also investigates emerging media and cultural powers beyond the dominant West, including China's global media strategies, the Korean Wave and the international spread of Japanese pop culture. By completing this unit, you will gain a critical, current, and nuanced understanding of global media cultures and practices, equipping you for further academic research or a dynamic career in international media and communication.
