Content

This unit introduces students to the theory and practice of teaching music and movement in the early years. It starts by developing personal embodied skills in arts practice, exploring and responding to music and movement. Ethical engagement with resources from Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander , and other cultures prepares students to select teaching resources thoughtfully. Students create curriculum aligned teaching materials using the early years planning cycle, focusing on music and movement. Throughout the unit, they participate in embodied, arts-based learning experiences to build skills, a child-centred repertoire, and inclusive teaching practices. Students gain practical experience in using e-technologies and digital media for creative expression and developing digital artifacts. Informed by current arts education research, the unit links teaching theories to their application in contemporary educational settings, emphasising music and movement.
