Study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus:

1 x 3-hour on-campus seminar per week in non-placement teaching weeks

NIKERI (CBD):
3 x 6-hour on-campus intensive (workshops/seminars) per trimester (weeks TBA)

1 x 1-hour online seminars per week for 8-weeks

Content

This unit immerses students in the theory and practice of teaching and learning through visual arts and drama. It develops personal arts skills by creating, making and responding to experiences and learning materials. Students engage in arts-based learning reflecting Australia's cultural landscape, aligning with state and national curriculum frameworks. The unit explores critical thinking opportunities in visual arts and drama, linking teaching and learning theories to early childhood education. It encourages critical pedagogical perspectives on the arts in interdisciplinary education, emphasising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. Students further develop their skills in using e-technologies and digital media for both creative expression and the development of digital resources. The unit focusses on imaginative play and explorative learning experiences to assist students to develop innovative strategies to foster empathy, critical thinking, and creativity.
