Content

In this unit, students will connect theory to practice by undertaking their first Professional Experience Placement (20 days) in a kindergarten setting with children aged 3-5 years. Students will review and synthesise knowledge and skills in working with the planning cycle to plan for and undertake intentional teaching, guided play, and adult and child-led learning for individuals and small groups. Students will link planning to the Australian National Quality Framework. Students will collaborate with their placement mentor and colleagues to engage in professional practices aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers, with deliberate consideration of various cultural perspectives. Students will contribute further to their Professional Experience Portfolio, demonstrating advancements in teaching philosophy, pedagogical principles and practices and commitment to continuous improvement. Students will further develop skills and strategies for engaging professionally and collaboratively during placement. Students will engage in assessment circles as a way of demonstrating the learnings associated with this stage of their course, their most recent placement and progress towards the standards.
