Content
This unit explores theories, concepts, curriculum, policy and legislative frameworks in the promotion of health, student wellbeing, movement and physical education in the primary education context. The unit will provide an overview of theories of health promotion, physical and movement development in early and middle childhood pertinent to sound health, wellbeing and physical education practice. The unit is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to critically examine research, theory, practice and curriculum and apply these to evidence-informed health and physical education instruction that enhances the health, wellbeing and learning outcomes of students from diverse backgrounds and learners with specific additional needs and disabilities in the primary years. Students will be able to build competence and confidence to effectively plan, teach, assess and evaluate primary health and physical education learning sequences and appraise health, wellbeing and physical education initiatives relevant to the primary years.
