Content

This is the second unit in the Humanities sequence within the Bachelor of Education (Primary) course. Throughout this unit students build their capacity to integrate curriculum, teaching strategies and resources relevant to F-6 Humanities, including the discipline areas of Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History. As the focus is on inquiry-based pedagogy, learners and teachers are positioned as inquirers in the world. Students will learn about the theory behind inquiry-based approaches, as well as plan structure and sequence programs across the phases of inquiry. Building on their learning in the Humanities sequence, students will continue to develop understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Both assessment tasks are framed by overarching inquiry questions. Assessment Task 1 requires students to apply their skills in selecting and critically evaluating resources for teaching for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures by creating a resource pack. Assessment Task 2 requires students to plan an inquiry unit for Levels 5 and 6 Civics and Citizenship that develops understandings of local and global citizenship by engaging learners with local citizens and contemporary issues in their communities.
