Content
This unit is the third of three English and Literacy related units, designed to prepare contemporary primary school teachers of language, literacy and literature. This unit examines the development of speaking and listening, writing and creating, and reading, viewing and comprehending of texts in the middle years of primary schooling (years three to six). It explores print literacy development in the middle years of school, together with a range of broader literacies, including digital, multimodal, and visual literacies. In this unit, pre-service teachers learn to plan effective lessons, units, and programmes for diverse language, literacy, and literature learners in upper primary. Throughout the trimester, preservice teachers engage with a variety of literacy learning theories, assessments, and pedagogical approaches, learning to justify how, when, and why to utilise different approaches across their classroom programs.
