(If you complete EPR781 in 2026, you will complete 30 days in total. 20-days in a Primary setting and 10-days in Early Childhood setting) If EPR781 successfully completed prior to 2026 students will be required to complete 40-days of placement E765 students: 25-days professional experience (placement) in a Secondary School setting (If you complete EPR781 in 2026, you will complete 20-days) For the most up-to-date advice regarding your professional experience (placement), policies and calendars please refer to the Professional Experience Office website Placements for this unit are scheduled across multiple placement blocks. Students will be assigned to one of these blocks and cannot choose their preferred placement window. It is the student's responsibility to ensure they are available for placement at any time within the designated placement periods, as scheduling may occur at any point within these timeframes. Flexibility and full availability during all placement windows is essential for successful allocation and completion of the professional experience. Please note: Placement periods may take place during or outside standard trimester teaching dates. |
Content
This unit focuses on building capacity in professional experience through the exploration of Applied Learning theories and practices. It examines the relationship between learning and learner identity, with an emphasis on designing and delivering learning sequences that foster hands-on, real-world engagement. Students will develop skills in Applied Learning pedagogy and practice, program and assessment design, and the use of critical feedback and reflection to enhance teaching effectiveness. The unit introduces Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) as a framework for analysing and improving teaching practices and explores the integration of emerging technologies, including AI, to support diverse learners in contemporary educational settings.

Commonwealth Prac Payment
From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government is intending to introduce the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) to assist eligible students with costs related to mandatory placements in higher education courses for teaching, nursing, midwifery and social work.
Hurdle requirements
Satisfactory completion of the Professional Experience component in this unit is compulsory in order to fulfil the course requirements and to be eligible to apply for professional registration.
