Content

Classroom Pedagogies is the second unit in a two-part sequence designed to develop pre-service teachers’ ability to manage primary school classrooms effectively. This unit equips students with practical strategies for proactive classroom management, student engagement, and lesson planning to prevent and respond to challenging behaviours. Through a combination of theoretical learning, hands-on application, and reflection, students will develop evidence-based teaching strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. A core focus is on proactive classroom practices, high expectations, relationship-building, and structured lesson planning to foster student participation and minimize disruptions. The unit integrates a 15-day placement, where students will apply their learning in real classroom contexts, including one day per week over ten weeks, followed by a five-day block placement. This cycle of learning, practice, and reflection ensures that students refine their approaches in response to real-world classroom experiences. By the end of the unit, students will be able to implement effective classroom pedagogies, manage student behaviour using research-backed techniques, and engage in professional reflection to enhance their teaching practice.
