Content
This unit introduces pre-service teachers to the interrelated processes of curriculum planning, pedagogical decision-making, assessment, and feedback practices within the primary school context. Students will engage with the Australian and Victorian Curriculum to plan lesson sequences, apply evidence-based teaching strategies, design assessments, and provide constructive feedback to enhance student learning outcomes. Through a combination of theoretical learning, practical application, and critical reflection, students will develop foundational skills in designing and implementing effective learning experiences. A key component of this unit is a 10-day placement in a primary classroom, where students will apply their learning in real-world settings. Throughout the trimester, students will critically analyse various assessment strategies, including formative, summative, and diagnostic approaches, and explore how feedback supports student learning progression. This unit prepares students for their next placement unit, where they will refine and demonstrate competency in these core teaching practices.
