Study commitment:

Students will spend on average 150 hours over the trimester undertaking synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus:

7x 2 hr on campus seminars Weeks 1- 4, 10,11. (2x 2hr seminars in week 1)
3x 2 hr on campus simulation Weeks 2 - 4

Content

This unit is the second of three units within Midwifery Studies: [SS1.1] Year 3. In this unit, students will examine care [SM2.1] of the pre-term, small for gestational age and term neonates who develop complex health issues. The delivery of care related to neonatal challenges in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals will be explored. 

Students will further develop knowledge, skills, and mindsets to care for the neonate and family where a neonate requires additional care and/or admission to the special care nursery.
