| Study commitment: | Students will spend on average 150 hours over the trimester undertaking synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning activities for this unit. This will include 12 hours of synchronous learning activities and a 120 hour Midwifery Practice Experience. Students will spend 12 hours undertaking guided asynchronous learning activities. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |

Content
This unit is the final unit within Midwifery Studies. Students will explore issues influencing contemporary midwifery practice in both a local and global context.
Students will critically examine issues of women’s health care related to social, cultural, political and ethical frameworks and reflect on their philosophy of midwifery as they prepare for registration as a midwife.
A final 120-hour Midwifery Practice Experience will support students as they prepare to transition to the role of a midwife.

Commonwealth Prac Payment
From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government is intending to introduce the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) to assist eligible students with costs related to mandatory placements in higher education courses for teaching, nursing, midwifery and social work.
