Study commitment:

Students will spend on average 150 hours over the trimester undertaking synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - online:

This will include 18 hours of synchronous learning activities over the trimester

In-person attendance requirements:

64-hour Midwifery Practice Experience

Content

In this unit, clinical and professional midwifery concepts with a focus on the care of the woman during labour and birth will be examined.

Students will explore the role of the midwife in supporting a woman in labour to optimise the outcome of a physiological birth and transition following birth of woman and neonate, incorporating physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of care. Students will further develop their knowledge of anatomy and physiology which underpins the process of labour and birth.

During the 64 hours of midwifery practice experience students will have the opportunity to further develop mindsets and apply knowledge and skills learned in this unit.
