This unit is the first of two in the Clinical Studies Cluster: Year 1. Aligned with quality and safety principles, opportunities are provided for students to explore and develop essential nursing knowledge and skills necessary for the provision of person-centred care. The nursing process, including assessment, problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, will be used as a foundational framework to guide students in developing clinical decision-making skills.

Essential concepts for nursing practice in a variety of health care settings, such as communication, promotion of comfort, management of symptoms, infection prevention and control, and management of risk will be examined and applied.

During a two (2) week Professional Experience Placement (PEP) students will have the opportunity to develop specific mindsets and apply relevant knowledge and skills learned in this and other units.
