Study commitment:	Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Content

This unit will provide students with the knowledge, reasoning, and skills to undertake counselling in an ethical manner. Students will learn about the philosophy and principles underlying ethical practice, as well as the specific ethical codes and laws that apply in Australia. The unit will provide students with the skills to communicate ethical and legal issues to clients and resolve ethical dilemmas. Students will develop an awareness of their personal and professional limitations, including the impact of counsellor mental health on the client, highlighting the importance of self-monitoring and appropriate referral.
