Prerequisite:

Students enrolled in H704 must have passed 6 of the following units: HSH717, HSH719, HSH744, HSH746, HSH761, HSH762, HSH764, MPE781.

Students enrolled in H706 must have passed all 6 units in the following units: HSO709, HSO710, HSO711, HSO712, HSO713, HSO715 and have a minimum course WAM of 60.

Students enrolled in H709 must have passed a unit in HSH725, HSH753 and must have passed 5 of the following units: HDS730, HDS731, HDS732, HDS733, HDS734 and have a minimum course WAM of 60.

Students enrolled in H756 must  have passed a unit in HSH725, HSH753 and must have passed 5 of the following units: HME704, HME711, HME712, HSH702, HSH717, HSH719, HSH762, MPA702, MPM701, MPM722, MPM780 and have a minimum course WAM of 60.

Students enrolled in H757 must have passed a unit in HSH725, HSH753 and must have passed 5 of the following units: HSH701, HSH702, HSH703, HSH728, HSH744, HSH746, HSH769, HSH770 and have a minimum course WAM of 60.

Students enrolled in H759 must have passed a unit in HSH725 and must have passed 5 of the following units: HSH702, HSH703, HSH704, HSH705, HSH715, HSH728, HSH745.

Students enrolled in H765 must have passed HSH753, HSP731, HSP732, HSP733, HSP734 and HSP735 and have a minimum course WAM of 60.

Study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus:

On-campus and online independent and collaborative learning, including 5 x 2 hour on-campus seminars and 2 x 2 hour online seminars and regular online or on-campus contact with project supervisor throughout the trimester.

Scheduled learning activities - online:

Online independent and collaborative learning, including 7 x 2 hour online seminars and regular online contact with project supervisor throughout the trimester.

Note students can attend seminars in HSH731 or HSH732 or in both units.

Note:

To ensure students are able to be matched with an appropriate project and supervisor, enrolments should be finalised at least 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the trimester. Students who enrol after this time will require approval of the course leader pending availability of a suitable project.

(Note the Student self-enrolment function will cease 3 weeks before trimester and from then on all new enrolments will require Course Director and Unit Chair approval).

Content

This unit enables students to develop their knowledge and skills in conducting research. The unit must be studied in conjunction with HSH732 Minor Research Project B. HSH731 is normally completed prior to HSH732 but students can enrol in both units concurrently with the approval of their supervisor. Students enrolled in the unit will plan an conduct research including; conducting a brief literature review, developing a research question, choosing methods to answer the research question, collecting and analysing data and a discussion of the results. This work undertaken across HSH731 and HSH732 will make a significant contribution to a research-based project in a relevant field of study.
