Content
In this unit, students will explore systems thinking approaches that aid in systems change by analysing, comparing, and contrasting systemic problems while exploring problem influences and potential actions that can be taken to address them. This unit will both consider formal 'systems' such as the health system, and larger systemic forces such as colonisation as systems. Systemic problems are those problems that have multiple, interconnected contributing factors that change slowly over time and are difficult to address, for example, problems like mental wellbeing, homelessness, gendered violence or the effects of climate change. Students will examine systems change through the lens of systems leadership, including the roles of individuals, organisations, systems and structures and how these influence equity and community health outcomes. Students will have the opportunity to practice reading and interpreting systems thinking diagrams from the discipline of system dynamics, which help to inform systems leadership decisions and strategy.
