Content
This Level 1 unit integrates academic learning and practice education, continuing the development of students' knowledge in occupational science and therapy. Students will explore the relationship between occupation, health, and wellbeing, using occupational perspectives to understand community health and well-being, social determinants of health, and occupational justice. A key feature of this unit is the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, including participation in an On-Country learning experience. This provides students with an opportunity to reflect on the role of occupational therapists in promoting inclusive practice. Students will develop emerging self-awareness and reflective practice skills essential for working with diverse communities. In addition, students will complete approximately 80 hours of practice education within health and community organisations, allowing them to observe and participate in professional practice. These experiences will support students to develop emerging competencies, apply academic knowledge, and begin shaping their professional identity as occupational therapists.
