Content

This Level 2 unit builds on bioscience knowledge and links it with occupational therapy theoretical and practice elements. A range of health conditions commonly encountered in occupational therapy practice will be presented and examined in relation to their impact on occupational performance. An occupational therapy model will be used to provide a framework to analyse conditions considering musculoskeletal, neurological, psychological, cognitive, affective, and social factors.

Scenarios drawn from health and human service practice will be used to provide an introduction to clinical reasoning, theoretical concepts and models of occupational therapy, client- centred processes and potential areas of occupational therapy assessment and intervention.

Students will participate in seminars sessions with consumers and/or expert practitioners to integrate theory with practice. An additional focus of this unit is the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, enabling and supporting students to consider how occupational therapists can deliver culturally safe and inclusive practice. Students will also analyse the impact of health conditions on occupational performance taking into account a range of personal, occupational, and environmental factors.  Students will further develop reflective practice skills and emerging professional competencies essential for practice education placements in subsequent units.
