Content
This practicum unit is designed to support students in developing competence as beginning occupational therapy practitioners, with a specific focus on practice education within education contexts. It builds on and extends competency development from previous practice education experiences, enabling students to: apply occupational therapy reasoning processes to a range of school-based and educational practice situations; develop skills aligned with the OT Australia professional competency standards; explore and respond to issues relevant to working in educational settings; and demonstrate effective, professional communication with children, families, educators, and other stakeholders. There is a strong focus on health promotion, enabling students to consider and apply principles that support the wellbeing, participation, and inclusion of children and young people within educational settings. Where appropriate, practice education will be complemented by additional learning experiences to support students in developing core competencies, capabilities, and an understanding of the importance of evidence-informed occupational therapy practice.
