Study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

1 x 1-hour online lecture plus 1 x 2 hour on-campus seminar per week

Content

This unit is designed to develop contemporary occupational therapy practice skills, according to the OT competency standards that underpin the profession. It covers approaches to and methods of identifying people's needs, choices, capacities and preferences within a person-centred and culturally responsive approach leading to the collaborative identification of occupational therapy goals. The unit focuses on gathering information about occupational performance and the influence of environments on occupational performance. Topics covered include the purpose of occupational therapy assessment; culturally appropriate narrative storytelling as a way of information gathering; reflective practice; collaborative goal-setting; selection, critique and use of assessment tools; and assessing and modifying environments to enhance occupational performance.
