A health organisation may refuse to accept a student for practice education based on the student’s police record check. In accordance with the Department of Justice 2007, Working with Children Act 2005, (amended 2017) and Deakin Procedures, all students are required to undertake a Working with Children Check at the commencement of their course and ensure it remains current throughout the course. Students who fail to obtain a Police Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to the commencement of their professional practice education experience will not be able to undertake their professional practice education experience and this will impede their progress in the course. Students may also be required to declare their immunisation status to satisfy the requirements of health organisations where they will be undertaking their professional practice education experience. A health organisation may refuse to accept a student for their professional practice education experience if the student’s immunisation status is not satisfactory to the health organisation. |
Content
In this unit, students will undertake an occupational therapy professional practice education experience with community-based agencies, developing their capacity to work ethically and collaboratively in non-traditional settings. They will learn to apply occupational therapy knowledge in partnership with individuals, groups, and communities, navigating diverse roles and support systems. Students will strengthen their ability to work autonomously, reflect critically, and adapt their practice to the context. This professional practice education experience supports students to engage meaningfully with communities, build respectful relationships, and manage their own learning and practice with initiative, reflexivity, and responsiveness to local ways of working.
