This unit is only available to students enrolled in the Master of Speech Pathology (H765)
Assumed knowledge:

Students are expected to familiarise themselves with the Speech Pathology Placement Handbook, along with any additional information provided about their allocated placement, prior to attending their placement.
Prerequisite:

All of HSP736, HSP737 and HSP738
Study commitment:

Students will on average spend 300 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.
Scheduled learning activities - campus:

1 x 2 hour online seminar (week 1)
5 x 3 hour online seminars
1 x 18 day on-site professional experience (penultimate placement) commencing week 1
1 x 18 day on-site professional experience (final placement) across the trimester, commencing week 9.

Note that placements, teaching and assessment for this unit extend beyond the Deakin trimester period.
In-person attendance requirements:

Students are required to attend all online seminars and all placement days.
The 5 x 3 hour online seminars will be scheduled to align with student availability, and students will be informed about the required date and time for attendance. Students must communicate directly with Practice Educators regarding attendance as outlined in the Speech Pathology Placement Handbook.

Content

This unit will allow students to integrate and apply their knowledge from across the course. Students will participate in all aspects of speech pathology practice across two placements, each in a different service or setting.

Students will consolidate and demonstrate Professional conduct, Reflective practice and Speech pathology practice as outlined in the Professional Standards for Speech Pathologists in Australia.

These placements will support students to work towards autonomous professional practice and focus on integration of knowledge and skills. Students are expected to move towards independent responsibility for providing services and management of caseload/workload within the service.

Alongside placements, students will participate in tutorials that encompass case-based discussion and problem solving, focussing on transfer of knowledge and skills to complex cases. Across this unit, students will demonstrate that they are ready to enter the profession.
