Content
This unit explores the critical role of accountants in contemporary society and equips students with the knowledge and skills to apply accounting theories and navigate real-world accounting challenges. Through a problem-solving approach and analysis of authentic cases, you will develop the ability to interpret financial and non-financial information and contribute to credible decision-making across diverse organisational contexts.
You will engage with contemporary accounting topics including financial statement analysis, accounting theory, corporate governance, sustainability and climate-related disclosures. A key feature of the unit is a multiple-week business simulation in which you work in teams to apply theoretical knowledge to realistic, ambiguous business scenarios. This immersive experience develops your capacity to collaborate effectively, exercise professional judgment, and communicate complex accounting information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
On completion of the unit, you will be able to: apply accounting theories to analyse business information; evaluate governance and sustainability reporting against regulatory standards; collaborate effectively to develop and present accounting solutions; and demonstrate professional competencies for entry into the accounting profession.
