Content
Entrepreneurial Finance is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand how early stage ventures are funded and financially managed. This unit introduces students to the financial strategies used by start ups and growing businesses. It explores how entrepreneurs obtain and manage funding, and how these decisions influence the growth and direction of a business. Students will examine various sources of capital, such as bank, venture capital, angel investors, crowd funding, and self-funding, and learn how to evaluate the benefits and challenges of each. The unit also considers how funding choices affect ownership, control, and long-term value creation. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will build skills in assessing the financial needs of a new venture, pitching to investors, and understanding investor perspectives. The unit encourages students to think critically about how financial decisions are made under uncertainty, and how trust and negotiation shape the entrepreneur-investor relationship. Whether students plan to launch their own business, join a start up, or work in financial services, this unit offers valuable insights into the role of finance in turning ideas into viable enterprises.
