Study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This includes the compulsory attendance in the seminars for assessment purposes.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus:

1 x 1 hour on-campus lecture (recordings provided) per week and 1 x 2 hour on-campus seminar per week.

Scheduled learning activities - online:

1 X 1 hour recorded lecture and 1 X 2 hours online seminar per week.

In-person attendance requirements:

To complete Assessment 1, students must attend at least 4 of the 6 assessed seminars. Active participation in these sessions is essential for demonstrating competence in the assessed artefacts through meaningful peer engagement.

Students are required to select any four seminars from Weeks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10.

Content

This Small Business Management unit offers an in-depth exploration of the principles and practices essential for managing a small business. Students will learn to develop business plans, manage finances and people, and navigate the legal requirements of running a business. By the end of the unit, students will be equipped with the skills to analyse business opportunities, make informed decisions, and implement effective management strategies. Experiential and practical exercises, case studies, and interactions with successful small business owners will provide real-world insights and hands-on experience.
