Content
The implementation of appropriate qualitative and quantitative techniques and methods in the field is a fundamental skill in environmental and civil engineering. This unit provides students the opportunity to develop a range of field- based investigation skills related to earth systems, with a particular focus on the physical and chemical properties of soils and waters. Students will learn about key analytical techniques used to study soils and waters, including methods for monitoring, sampling and classification. Through practical classes, students will gain hands-on experience in quantifying soil physical and chemical properties, reinforcing theoretical knowledge with applied skills. The unit integrates theory, site studies, and laboratory investigations utilising a basic design framework that allows synthesis of data to formulate a professional level folio. This approach ensures students not only understand the technical aspects of geotechnical and environmental analysis but also develop the capacity to interpret and communicate findings effectively in real-world contexts.
