Content
Integrated catchment systems considers catchment management at a system level by considering how land use impacts the quantity and quality of water in our catchments and discusses how such impacts can be managed in a sustainable way to maximise social, cultural, and environmental outcomes. In this unit, students will study and work with natural processes and evaluate holistic approaches for sustainable water management to engineer landscapes that support natural systems and ensure longer-term sustainability of catchments. Students will apply scientific processes to quantify and assess catchment change and impacts, and will apply engineering principles to suggest interventions and approaches to manage hydrological flow pathways throughout the catchment. This evidence-based approach requires engagement with all stakeholders to commit to actively and sustainably managing catchment systems, reinforcing the interdependence of environmental, social, and economic conditions.
