Content
In the past two decades, many countries around the globe have witnessed a growing need to restore environmental quality and protect the environment from the degrading effects of air pollution. In this unit, students will learn about the chemistry that underpins these issues, and how cutting-edge engineering processes and systems can be used to address air pollution challenges. Students will explore atmospheric reactions, the role of free radicals, and models of pollutant dispersion, supporting a deeper understanding of how pollutants behave and interact in the atmosphere.
The unit also introduces students to analytical techniques for measuring air quality, enabling them to assess and interpret environmental data with precision. They will become familiar with the best available technologies for air pollution control, including design methods, installation, and operation of control processes and systems. Students will develop knowledge of environmental analysis processes and conduct technical evaluations of potential solutions. As part of a series of environmental pollution control and management units in the environmental engineering course, this unit prepares students to develop engineering proposals for sustainable solutions using core principles of chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
