Content
The symbiotic relationship between architecture and environment is an enduring one, given the vulnerability of Earth’s resources and the impacts of climate change.
Architects have a duty to respond to this evolving future through the adoption of holistically sustainable design methods which are firmly rooted in principles of environmentally sustainable design (ESD), eco-tourism and passive design. The premise is to achieve an architectural proposition that strives for a balance of harmonies between the built environment and the natural environment.
In this unit, students will pursue environmentally sustainable architecture design solutions that that are inclusive of Country, context and all people. Beginning with a guided field trip that introduces collaborative predesign research and observational skills of site, context and precedent studies, and supported by a series of scaffolded design studio-based learning activities, students will engage in the proposal of a creative and coherent design project, communicable to a notional client group through final, presentation quality representational artefacts.
