Content
Architecture is developed in response to a range of factors, from the needs of a project’s users and communities and the place that it is situated, including its complex and often contested histories, and its statutory and regulatory structures, to the global and local histories of the discipline, to the affordance and affect of the matter from which it is made. Architecture in Australia must strive to care for Country, to learn from the knowledges of its First Peoples, and to account for its potential impact upon fragile environments and ecologies.
As a profession, architects must uphold the standards expected from that protected title, working with and for a range of stakeholders, including, but not limited to the client that commissions them. The responsibility of the profession, in an increasingly complex and fast-changing world, must be founded on conscience, care, and compassion, to always seek to leave a place, its peoples, and its environment better than how it was found.
This Unit provides the first part of a Common Ground for future architecture professionals, to understand architectural design as the primary way in which we practise our profession, and how we use criticality, creativity, and curiosity to act as agents of change, and successfully and ethically operate within the contemporary and future territories of the built environment.
Unit fee information
Fees and charges vary depending on the type of fee place you hold, your course, your commencement year, the units you choose to study and their study discipline, and your study load.
Tuition fees increase at the beginning of each calendar year and all fees quoted are in Australian dollars ($AUD). Tuition fees do not include textbooks, computer equipment or software, other equipment or costs such as mandatory checks, travel and consumables.

Hurdle requirements
To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve a minimum of 50% in Assessment Task 2 - Draft Design Proposal, in addition to the normal requirement of at least 50% overall for the unit.
