Content
SRD760 introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of Urban Informatics, focusing on how data, technology, and design intersect to inform sustainable and regenerative urban development. The unit explores the use of data-driven tools, technologies, and techniques to collect, analyse, visualise, and interpret complex information about cities and neighbourhoods. Through a highly interactive learning model, students will be exposed to a wide range of digital tools and evidence-based approaches for mapping, modelling, and scenario planning. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills in urban data literacy, spatial analysis, and multi-scalar thinking, enabling students to tackle pressing urban challenges such as climate adaptation, resource depletion, mobility, social equity, and waste management. The unit equips students with the critical and analytical capabilities needed to navigate and influence contemporary urban systems. It also supports the application of relevant policies, design frameworks, and theoretical perspectives — from global strategies to localised, community-specific interventions. Collaboration, discussion, and peer exchange will be integrated into weekly sessions to foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
