Incorporate a full or part time industry work placement as part of your degree and it’ll count as course credit. Not only will it prepare you for employment once you graduate but you’ll get first-hand industry insights and develop your professional network.
Global Citizenship Program
Expand your world and develop your career prospects with our Global Citizenship Program. Take part in short or long-term in-country opportunities; you’ll have the chance to build up your skills, give back to the global community and make your résumé stand out.
Peer Support Network (PSN)
Our mentoring and leadership program, PSN, supports new students with the transition into university life. By getting involved, you’ll have a friendly face to talk to from the moment you start life at Deakin, and mentors to share your university experiences with.
Start Anytime
Deakin offers Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment students the opportunity to complete part of their course as Start Anytime units. This allows you to begin a unit at any point throughout the year and complete it online at your own pace.
Start Anytime units offered at the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment include:
- Industry Based Learning (STP301)*
- Career Placement (STP341)*.
* Maximum one year
To enrol in these units, students must have an approved placement and have completed the Introduction to Work Placement unit (STP010).

The Postgraduate Engineering Internship is design to give you first-hand, discipline-specific work experience (120 - 160 hours) and is offered to our Master of Engineering (Professional) students. You'll be better prepared for graduate employment, increase your employability and develop your professional networks.

Professional Practice is a discipline-specific, full time paid placement (60-85 working days) offered to our Master of Information Technology students. You'll take part in real-world environments, enhance your knowledge and skills and develop your professional networks – all in preparation for your future career.
Opportunities with the School of Life and Environmental Sciences
Fieldwork
Get more from your degree through fieldwork. It's a chance for you to step away from your textbooks and really explore the environment you’re studying. Students studying our environment courses are able to learn about the real world through field trips and experiences.
Professional Practice
Deakin's environment courses have a core professional practice unit that includes a discipline-specific industry placement. This puts you in touch with the environment industry.
You'll be involved with local councils, community groups and businesses dealing with environmental health issues like pollution control, recycling and ecotourism, as well as biodiversity conservation and management.
