Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP)

The Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP) involves partnerships between the University and regional, low SES and under-represented secondary schools in Melbourne, Geelong and the Western parts of Victoria.

The objectives of DEAP are:

  • To raise aspirations and attainment for higher education, inspiring students to both consider and access university as a viable pathway.

  • To engage parents with the aim of encouraging and supporting their families' understanding of and aspirations for higher education.

  • To familiarise students with university life and pathways to university, including VTAC's Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS).

  • To support schools in preparing students for the transition to university and connecting with transition programs at Deakin University.

  • To build Deakin University's profile as a leader in the provision of accessible and equitable education.

Targeting Years 9 to 12, the Program involves curriculum-specific academic engagement, parental engagement, Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) and scholarship application workshops, amongst others.

It is designed to counteract educational disadvantage and support secondary students to reach their education and employment aspirations.

DEAP partnerships have now been developed with 40 secondary schools throughout Victoria.
