Fibre Roll-out Launch
22nd March 2014
Deakin University Recently welcomed a new fibre optic connection that will allow a broader range of subjects to be offered and strengthen research capacity at its Warrnambool Campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander joined Premier and Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine and Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan at the official launch of the Victorian Government's $10 million high-speed broadband roll-out.
"The new fibre network will mean Warrnambool is no longer constrained by its geographic location," Professor den Hollander said. "Deakin has been one of the key campaigners for this important regional project over past four years. Deakin's Chief Digital Officer and iTnews Chief Information Office of the Year, William Confalonieri, said the new connection would help expand the highly successful Deakin at your Doorstep program, which uses cloud and location-based teaching to deliver a range of programs to students in remote campuses.
