Induction Program
All new international architecture and construction management students are invited to attend an induction program offered by the School at the beginning of the year. The program is designed to compliment university wide orientation programs by targeting discipline specific information and transition into the School culture, expectations of the staff and the course requirements.
The program is free and you will benefit in many ways:
- Prepares you for when semester starts.
- Facilitates your academic transition and adjustment into our courses.
- Provides you with a starting point with which you are able to seek and source help.
- Discusses expectations and overview to the core stream of units, includes subject content, extent and coverage and relation to other units as a whole.
- Includes a full day excursion beginning with a walk around the city of Geelong in the morning. The city walk provides you with a locality context of the city's beginnings, development and ongoing growth. After the walk its onto a bus tour around the south-western coast (along the Great Ocean Road) visiting architectural sites (built and under construction) and the opportunity to take in the coastal lifestyle.
- Offers a workshop on academic skills and communication.
- Enables you to meet staff and other students, including senior international students who are happy to provide peer and mentor support.
International Student Network
Senior international students are always available and more than willing to provide support and assistance to all new international students. There are always architecture and construction management students who take onboard formal support roles and are actively involved as Deakin International reception officers; peer support at pre-departure briefing sessions and at School Induction Programs.
Interational students usually form and offer a vital network of support to themselves, as they experience similar issues of living and studying away from home. New international students enjoy learning from each other's culture as much as they do from the "Aussie" students.
