Dr Rollo is a senior lecturer in design with the School of Architecture and Building at Deakin University. He completed his undergraduate studies at both La Trobe University and Deakin University in Australia, and studied for his Masters in Shape Grammar Theory at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of California, Los Angeles. Applying a taxonomic process of investigation to the domestic folio of Sir Edwin Lutyens, he completed his Ph D at the Martin Centre for Land use and Built form studies at Cambridge University, and worked for four years as a lecturer in Theory and Design at the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath. He is a strong advocate for collaborative and multi-discipline education and has professional experience in Australia, the US and the UK. Contributing to facilitating greater discourse on contemporary urban design issues between: governments, communities, the design professions and higher education, Dr Rollo initiated the studio based design research forum, 'Urbanheart Surgery', in 1999. He subsequently developed the 'Urbanheart' Design Research Group in 2001, which operates as an informal collaborative graduate program within the School of Architecture and Building. He coordinates a number of funded and non-funded projects on planning and design issues in three areas critical to advancing both a local and global sustainable healthy cities agenda: Regional Urbanism, Metropolitan Urbanism and Urbanism on the periphery.
