Inaugural Carer Industry Forum 2025
Professor Trish Livingston, Professor Vicki White, Dr Natalie Winter and Dr Stephanie Cowdery attended the Inaugural Carer Industry Forum 2025 hosted by Carer Gateway / Holstep Health held on Wednesday the 8th of October. The day was a rewarding and highly productive experience for all concerned and we look forward to the continued collaboration opportunities that arise.

This all-day event addressed the topic, 'Moving from collaboration to integration for stronger carer support'. The agenda featured multiple panel discussions including a session on carer experience and challenges in accessing support and a final session on the path forward, 'Where the what if, becomes what’s next!' COSA IPOS 2025
Several members of the Carer Hub team will be attending the upcoming Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Conference (COSA IPOS 2025) at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 11 to 14 November. Professor Trish Livingston will chair a symposium on the topic of 'Driving better outcomes: Integrating cancer carer needs into healthcare reform'. Our presenters will discuss their abstracts as follows:
- Towards carer-inclusive cancer care: findings from a national survey of informal carers – Stephanie P Cowdery
- Co-designing an interactive website for people affected by upper gastrointestinal cancers – Natalie Winter
- How can we address carer-specific concerns? Tailoring psychological interventions to meet the needs of cancer carers – Kyra Webb
- Meeting the psychosocial needs of cancer carers: Feasibility of a scalable online screening and stepped care support pathway – Rebekah Laidsaar-Powell
- Healthcare utilization and substance use in partners of adults with colorectal cancer – Youngmee Kim
- Experiences of family caregivers facing cancer progression: A triadic perspective with patients and healthcare professionals in France and Switzerland – Kristopher KL Lamore
We will conclude the session with a panel discussion. This is an in person only event with a fantastic program focussing on the theme of 'Optimising care, optimising outcomes, Partnering to improve outcomes for all'. We look forward to bringing you a further update about our experience after the conference.
Launch of the Victorian cancer plan 2024-2028
Professor Vicki White was a guest at the recent launch of the Victorian cancer plan 2024-2028, alongside the Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas and the CEO, Cancer Council Victoria, Adjunct Professor Todd Harper AM. Recent Cancer Carer Hub promotions
We are delighted to advise that Associate Professor Anna Ugalde has recently been promoted to professor. Dr Natalie Winter has also been promoted to senior research fellow. Each promotion is an acknowledgement of their demonstrated hard work and excellent contribution to Deakin and will be effective 1 January 2025.
Deakin honours Cancer Carer Hub leader
Congratulations to Professor Trish Livingston being named Deakin Distinguished Professor, the University's highest academic honour, recognising a professor’s significant and sustained contribution to Deakin, taking into account their academic reputation, exceptional teaching or research, exceptional academic achievements and service to professional or public life.
Cancer Carer Hub team presents at John Deeble event
The John Deeble lecture and panel discussion took place this October at the Australian National Museum in Canberra, marking the 40th anniversary of Medicare, co-signed by John Deeble. Dr Natalie Winter from the Cancer Carer Hub attended and delivered a presentation at the event on her experience with the Deeble Institute Summer Research Scholarship. She emphasised the urgent need to prioritise carers within the healthcare system, addressing an esteemed audience of public sector leaders, health executives and academics.
