Geelong at a glance

Geelong’s Waurn Ponds train station is the closest station to the campus. V/Line trains operate throughout the day on the Geelong–Melbourne line and take just over an hour and 15 minutes.
Public bus services
There are plenty of bus services that run from the Geelong CBD, Geelong railway station and the Waurn Ponds railway station to the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.
How to pay for public transport
To travel to Geelong from Melbourne you’ll need to buy a Myki card. Myki cards are very easy to use, just top up credit at a shop or station, then touch-on and off to get through the barriers at train stations. The suburban bus lines use Myki as well as tickets that can be purchased on the buses.
Free inter-campus bus for students and staff
Deakin’s free inter-campus bus service for students and staff runs frequently between the Geelong Waterfront and Waurn Ponds Campuses. There’s also a stop at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre in Belmont. It's the most convenient way to travel between campuses.
The Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is connected to a number of scenic bicycle trails. On campus you’ll find showers and change rooms, bike racks and lockers to make your commute as easy and safe as possible or you can park at Barwon Valley Activity Centre (BVAC) and jump on the Cube bus to the campus.
The Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is just over an hour from Melbourne by car, depending on traffic.
- From Melbourne, take the Princes Freeway (M1) west
- Follow the M1 to Highton
- Take the exit towards Waurn Ponds
- Turn right onto the A10
- Take the first right into Pigdons Road
- Take the first left at Deakin University Geelong Waurn Ponds
We provide a free carpool matching service to students and staff to help you find someone to carpool with.
If you bring someone else with you in your car, you can use the carpooling car park.
Park and ride
Students and staff can park their car for free at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre, Belmont, and complete their journey on the free Deakin bus. Shuttle buses service the BVAC carpark from Monday to Friday, 7am until 8.30pm. There are stops at both Geelong campuses.
Paid parking is available on campus at a number of different car parks. You can pay for parking using the PayByPhone app or by buying a ticket from a machine.
Finding your way around
Our wayfinding app Deakin Scout will help you to navigate around our Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus. And just in case you run out of battery, there’s a map you can print out too.
We have a Disability Resource Centre on every campus and most of our buildings are fully accessible too – with lifts, disabled toilets and automatic doors.
A huge amount of resources, helpful staff and a great space to study. You’re welcome to use the library even if you’re not a student or staff member.
Get support of all kinds from Student Central – our administration hub.
We have an accredited medical centre on every campus. You can either make an appointment to see our doctors or nurses or just drop in to the clinic. It’s completely free.
Elite Sports Precinct
With facilities that include an MCG-sized AFL oval and eight-lane 400 metre athletics track, our Elite Sports Precinct has everything an athlete needs to enhance their skills.
Where to eat
With five food outlets, including three cafés, a food court and a bistro, Waurn Ponds has got your food and coffee needs covered.

Our bookshop is always well-stocked with textbooks and stationery. Don’t forget to grab your Deakin merchandise too.
Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is just a short stroll to the local shopping centre.
Safety and security
We take safety very seriously at all our campuses with 24/7 security officers and a SafeZone app for your phone.
Our on-site childcare centre is open to children of staff, students and families in the local area.
Heat up milk and baby food in microwaves, change nappies and breastfeed in privacy.
You’re welcome to use this peaceful room for prayer and reflection, whether you’re religious or not. The historic Deakin Chapel is also located at our Waurn Ponds campus.
Our picturesque sandstone chapel is available to hire for weddings, christenings and other occasions. We also hire out lecture theatres, classrooms and meeting rooms.
