Deakin Scholarship for Excellence - Juris Doctor
Applications open Wednesday 10 June and close 5pm Wednesday 8 July 2026.
Providing support for Juris Doctor students with strong academic background or excellence in extracurricular activities, community service or leadership.
Value
- Up to $10,000 per year, paid towards your tuition fees.
- Scholarship payments are calculated based on your study load at each applicable census date, the scholarship is prorated to $1,250 per credit point you study.
Duration
- Awarded for the normal full-time duration of the course.
Am I eligible?
Ensure you meet all criteria before submitting an application. To be eligible you must be:
- a domestic student
- commencing Deakin’s Juris Doctor (M729) in Trimester 2, 2026
- enrolled in a minimum of 2 credit points per trimester.
You must be able to demonstrate one of the following:
- a Weighted Average Mark (WAM)/Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 75 in previous undergraduate study
- leadership experience
- elite sports performance
- community service or volunteer activities
- excellence in the arts
- any other significant achievement.
Selection criteria
Consideration will be given to students experiencing financial or personal hardship.
Deakin alumni discount
If you are successful in receiving an offer for this scholarship and you are eligible for the Deakin alumni discount, you can only hold one. You will be asked to nominate which arrangement you would like to hold. If you do not make a nomination, the Deakin alumni discount will automatically be withdrawn.
Maintaining this scholarship
Continued eligibility for this scholarship requires maintaining a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65.

Register and log in to Deakin's Scholarship Application Portal, then select 'Postgraduate Scholarship Application Tri/Sem 2 2026'. If eligible, your application will be considered for this scholarship and any others you may be eligible for.
Numbers are limited; not all eligible applicants will receive one. Successful applicants will be notified usually within four weeks. Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.
Supporting documents
As part of the application process you're required to upload supporting documentation by the specified closing date. These should be current, relevant and concise.
The documents required for this scholarship include:
- evidence of your previous WAM or GPA (if completed at another institution)
- evidence of your achievements that make you eligible for this scholarship
- evidence of your medical and/or financial hardship (if applicable).
Make sure you choose the correct document typewhen you upload your documents – it will make a difference. If your documents are uploaded as the incorrect type they will not be considered when assessing your application. Remember, it's quality, not quantity, you need to provide.
