Content

The unit will introduce knowledge of the middle years curriculum with the opportunity to focus on pre-service teachers’ specific specialist teaching area. It examines the various ways in which the curriculum is organized to help understand the key concepts, substance and structure of the content. The unit introduces teaching strategies for the specialist teaching areas and requires pre-service teachers to apply curriculum and pedagogical content knowledge to plan safe, effective and inclusive learning sequences. Pre-service teachers are required to select, justify and apply a range of teaching strategies that support student learning in practical contexts. Suitable assessment strategies are examined, including the strategies for interpreting student assessment data to plan for learning in the specialist teaching area. The unit includes strategies for managing challenging student behaviours, and addresses the appropriate use of teaching spaces and resources to support learning. Pre-service teachers examine broad strategies to evaluate teaching programs and apply feedback form mentors to teaching practices.
