Content
Pedagogy in Action critically examines the theory and practice of teaching and learning pedagogies as a fundamental concept in curriculum planning and sequencing. The content includes:
- Learning and Learner Identity
- Learning pedagogies
- The Teaching and Learning Cycle
- Assessment and Feedback
Beginning from a consideration of the purpose of education, learner development, and learner identity, a key element in this unit is the introduction and exploration of a range of pedagogical perspectives and instructional models. Perspectives studied include constructivist, relational, democratic, critical, place-based, post-colonial, and behaviourist pedagogies. Instructional models and frameworks considered include inquiry learning, design-based learning, exploratory learning, 8-Ways learning, and the current Department of Education and Training (Victoria) teaching and learning model. Building on this theoretical basis and students’ own inquiries into the research literature, the second part of the unit introduces contemporary principles and practices in educational design, including constructive alignment, assessment and feedback strategies and techniques. Students will apply this knowledge and their research to plan, communicate, and reflect on a teaching and learning sequence.
