Content
This unit focuses on the increasingly significant role being played by applied learning in schools that offers an important pathway for students to support their future educational and career pursuits and meet the rising demand for individuals with industry specialised skills in a rapidly changing labour markets.
The unit draws on the theory and practice of applied learning as a pedagogical phenomenon and as a curriculum-structuring concept by introducing the applied learning pathways: Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) and the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). It will explore the characteristics and learning needs of students in applied learning pathways, and how the curriculum promotes:
- industry-relevant skills;
- diverse learning pathways;
- practical experience;
- pathways to further education and employment, and;
- supporting lifelong learning.
The role industry, community, parents, further education and training and support systems play in the support of senior secondary students to transition into further education training and employment will also be explored.
Students studying this unit will apply strategies for designing, teaching and assessing VPC or VCE VM programs that are responsive to the learning needs of specific student cohorts.
