Deakin congratulates recipients of 2017 Queen's Birthday honours

Deakin University recognises and congratulates its staff, alumni and friends awarded Queen’s Birthday honours in 2017.

The Deakin community sends special congratulations to former Chancellor, Mr David Morgan AO, who received the Officer of the Order of Australia medal in the honours announced on Monday.

Mr Morgan received the honour in recognition of his exemplary service to the automotive industry, to Australian export strategies and service to higher education through fostering links between university and industry.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane den Hollander AO, congratulated Mr Morgan saying “his legacy remains as Deakin continues its strong trajectory of continuous improvement reflected each year in the various ranking and accreditation systems”.

The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle AC: For eminent service to the people of Melbourne through roles in local government, to the Parliament of Victoria, particularly in the areas of health and public administration, and to the community as a supporter of youth, social welfare and medical research foundations.

Mr Aaron Gandel AC: For eminent service to the community as a benefactor and supporter of a range of visual arts and cultural institutions, to youth education, medical and biotechnology innovation programs, to business and to the advancement of philanthropic giving.
