Relocating and relocation support
Moving is exciting, but it can also be time-consuming. Here’s some useful information to help smooth your relocation to work at Deakin. You’re also welcome to contact your HR adviser for any employment-specific queries.
Plan and prepare for your move
Plan well ahead if you're moving from another country. Keep in mind it can take some months to have your visa granted.
A good tip is to ensure you have:
- copies of all important documents
- contact details of the institutions they have come (both hard copy and also electronic).
In the event that you lose any of these documents you will then have copies to refer to.
Your HR Adviser is happy to provide further advice and assistance to ensure a positive move to Deakin.
Financial relocation support
Are you relocating either interstate or from overseas to join Deakin? If so, you may be eligible for financial relocation support.
You’ll be advised of your eligibility during your recruitment process. If unsure, please contact your HR contact. Financial support offered by the University may not cover all of your costs, but is designed to cater for the major costs such as relocation of household goods.
Relocation support is offered to assist staff members and their families relocating to Deakin for onboarding expenses such as:
- packing and removal of household goods
- freight charge
- insurance of goods in transit
- storage of household items for a period not exceeding two months
- temporary accommodation
- other settling assistance services
- travel and removal broker charges.
Moving your pet
If you own a cat or dog, the great news is you can bring them with you. Unfortunately, other types of domestic animals are not permitted in Australia, including:
- guinea pigs
