Support for international students

Coming to Australia to study can be the adventure of a lifetime. We'll support you on every step of this exciting journey.

Airport pick-up

We can pick you up from the airport when you land in Australia for the first time. This is a free service for all international students when they start their studies at Deakin University.

Beach welcome trip for study abroad and exchange students

We run a three-day beach welcome trip every year for international study abroad and exchange students. It's a great way to get to know other students, explore the Australian wilderness and learn all about your new home.

Beach Welcome Trip 2016

Deakin's Study Abroad team hosts two beach welcome trips every year for its international study abroad and exchange students.

Australia welcomes visitors and migrants from all over the world – you'll often hear us described as a proudly multicultural society.

Australia is a very safe place to live and visit. At Deakin we work hard to make sure that our students and staff feel safe and secure at all times.

International Student Advisers

We have International Student Advisers (ISAs) on every campus. They have lived and studied in other countries and have experienced firsthand the cultural and social adjustments required. They can provide general support to you during your studies, as well as offer advice on:

  • getting a new CoE/visa
  • visa conditions relating to enrolment requirements
  • work restrictions
  • intermission
  • leave of absence approval
  • crisis management.

They are also available to support under 18 students.

ISAs can provide support and advice in person, online or over the phone. You can book a private appointment or simply drop-in to the International Student Support Centre on your campus during contact hours for a 15 minute consultation.

Clubs and societies

Joining a club is a great way to meet new people. As well as clubs for all kinds of courses, sports and interests, we have many international-focused groups too.

Right now at Deakin there are dedicated clubs for students who are of Chinese, Sri Lankan, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Japanese, Malaysian or African descent. And you can always start your own if you want to.
