Orientation and getting started

We understand that regardless of whether you're coming to uni straight from high school, returning to study after a break or arriving in Australia for the first time, university can be exciting, challenging and a little daunting.

At Deakin our priority is to ensure that you make a smooth transition to university and that's why our transition program includes Orientation, workshops, social events and opportunities to get involved on campus. Taking part in these activities will ensure you make a successful start to studying at Deakin.

The Get Started site has been designed to help you prepare for university. Simply follow the steps from 'Enrol' to 'Attend Orientation' to find out all you need to know. There's even information for families so that they can help support you while you're at Deakin.

Get started

There are three simple steps for all new students who start at Deakin; visit the Get Started site, attend Orientation Week and Get Involved.

  • Students can prepare for their time at Deakin well before study starts. The Get Started site contains information on a wide range of topics designed to help guarantee success at Deakin.
  • Orientation Week is the official kick-start to the academic year. Students receive a course-specific itinerary to help guide them through the sessions and activities relevant to them. Orientation Week is designed to ease our students' transition into university life, help them gain valuable study tips and become familiar with their campus and university facilities.  It is also an opportunity to meet other students and staff, and have fun.
Cloud (online) students will have access to orientation information designed specifically for them.
  • Orientation Week is just the beginning of students' time at Deakin. Students can continue to get involved through mentor programs, clubs and societies and attending social events both on and off campus.  It's a great way to immerse yourself in the student experience, get social and get involved.
