Orientation and getting started
We understand that regardless of whether our new students are coming to uni straight from high school, returning to study after a break or arriving in Australia for the first time, university can be an exciting, challenging and a little daunting.
At Deakin our priority is to ensure that new students make a smooth transition to university and don't feel alone. Deakin's transition program includes orientation, workshops, social events and opportunities to get involved on campus. Taking part in these activities will ensure students make a successful start to studying at Deakin.
- Students can prepare for their time at Deakin well before study starts. The Get Ready site contains information on a wide range of topics designed to help guarantee success at Deakin.
- Orientation Week is the official kick-start to the academic year. Students receive a course-specific itinerary to help guide them through the sessions and activities relevant to them. Orientation Week is designed to ease our students' transition into university life, help them gain valuable study tips
and become familiar with their campus and university facilities. It is also an opportunity to meet other students and staff, and have fun.
Cloud (online) students will have access to orientation information designed specifically for them.
- Orientation Week is just the beginning of students' time at Deakin. Students can continue to Get Involved through mentor programs, clubs and societies and attending social events both on and off campus. It's a great way to immerse yourself in the student experience, get social and get involved.
