Deakin and Samsung to collaborate towards tech solutions of the future

Deakin has announced plans to collaborate with one of the world's biggest tech giants to develop industry solutions thanks to a new agreement between the University and Samsung Electronics Australia.

The proposed collaboration will look to include joint research and development opportunities through joint studies, solution developments and research projects.

The intended collaboration was formalised this week with a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander and Jack Kwon, President, Samsung Electronics Australia.

"We are thrilled to be able to partner with Samsung, a true global leader when it comes to technology and innovation," Professor den Hollander said.

"Working closely with Samsung will play a key part of Deakin's genuine commitment to connect with communities across the world and at home.

"Deakin is committed to remain globally connected to its people anywhere in the world and we understand that to do that we need to be able to respond to the constantly changing technological environment that is driving innovation and development right across the globe.

"Deakin's research and development capabilities, combined with Samsung's cutting edge resources, makes this announcement so exciting.

"Working closely with Samsung is another example of Deakin's world-leading efforts to bridge the digital divide by using state-of-the-art technology to stay connected," Professor den Hollander added.

Craig Gledhill, Samsung's vice president of the Enterprise Business Team for Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, said the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding was a welcome announcement for the company.

"Deakin University has a strong commitment towards using digital technology to help deliver superior learning, and Samsung is pleased to enter into a collaborative relationship to assist the University in fulfilling this vision," Mr Gledhill said.

"Samsung will look to become a strategic technology partner to Deakin and provide access to products, solutions and technical resources. A strong working relationship with the University would also enable Samsung to test new solutions and share R&D insights," Mr Gledhill added.

Professor den Hollander said collaboration between Samsung and the University would help drive greater understanding and cooperation between the two institutions, to the benefit of both Deakin students and the wider community.
